Registering a death that occurs outside Québec

Responsibility : Le Directeur de l’état civil

If you are a permanent resident in Québec, it is in your interest to have acts of civil status from outside jurisdictions entered in Québec's register of civil status. If a loved one dies outside Québec and had been a resident of Québec, you may take the steps to have the act of death entered in Québec's register of civil status. This will help you settle the succession (estate).

Note

You must provide the documents required by the Directeur de l'état civil.
