You must notify the Bureau du coroner in the following situations: a death occurs in violent or unclear circumstances or in a disaster, the identity of a deceased person is unknown, a body must be transported to another province, etc.
If a particular problem comes to light in relation to a death, the Bureau du coroner can order a public inquest, make recommendations for the protection of human life and inform the public.
