Death benefit further to an act of good citizenship

Responsibility : Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail

If a loved one dies while performing an act of good citizenship or as a result of such an act, his or her spouse, dependants and children may receive death benefits. You must prove that the rescuer had reasonable grounds for believing that the life of the rescued person was in danger. Depending on the circumstances, a pension may be paid to the surviving spouse and the dependants, and the funeral expenses and the costs of transporting the body may be reimbursed.

The Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail administers the compensation of victims in accordance with the Act to promote good citizenship. Be sure to check the deadline for filing an application.

Note

Anyone may propose a rescuer’s name for the Tribute to Good Citizenship program of the ministère de la Justice. The program grants decorations, distinctions and rewards under the Act to promote good citizenship.
