If you or your spouse contributed to one of the pension plans for the employees of the public and parapublic sectors, administered by the Commission administrative des régimes de retraite et d’assurances (CARRA), your heirs are entitled to benefits.
On your death, your surviving spouse and dependent children or heirs may, depending on the plan, be entitled to a pension, a refund of your contributions or, in certain cases, payment of the value of the pension.
Note
If, at the time of your death, you are an eligible employee or retiree, your heirs must fill out an Application for a Survivor’s Pension to obtain the life insurance benefit paid by the Commission. That amount can vary depending on your work conditions.
