On your death, your dependent child under the age of 18 is entitled to an orphan’s pension paid by the Régie des rentes du Québec, provided you contributed sufficiently to the Québec Pension Plan. The pension is paid to the person or organization that provides for the child’s needs. The pension ends when the child turns 18.
To apply for an orphan's pension
Fill out an Application for a Survivor’s Pension and enclose the requested documents.
Note
The death of a parent may change the amount of the child assistance payment and the supplement for handicapped children. Remember to inform the Régie des rentes du Québec of the death, as it is in charge of applying these measures.
