Child assistance

Responsibility : Régie des rentes du Québec

The death of your spouse or child may affect your child assistance payments and, as the case may be, the supplement for handicapped children. The Régie des rentes du Québec takes family income and the number of dependent children into account in setting the amounts paid as financial assistance to parents under that measure. Therefore, the Régie must be notified of any significant change.

The Directeur de l'état civil automatically informs the Régie des rentes du Québec of the death of a child. If the child assistance payments were made every three months, they will cease in the quarter following the child's death.

Note

The Calcul@ide simulation tool, available on the Régie’s Website, will give you an idea of the child assistance you may be entitled to in the event of a review.
