When a declaration of death is sent to the Directeur de l'État civil, the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec is automatically informed of the death and cancels the deceased's health insurance card.
Give the card to the funeral director, who will return it to the Régie. Otherwise, you must return the card yourself.
Note
Before cancelling a health insurance card, be sure to note the number: you may need it if you apply for benefits.
