Following the death of a next of kin, if you are governed by the Act respecting labour standards, you may be absent from work in accordance with what is provided for in the Act.
One day with pay and four other days without pay if he wishes to
For the death or funeral of your spouse, child, father, mother, brother or sister, or a child of your spouse.
One day without pay
For the death or funeral of your son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent or grandchild, or the father, mother, brother or sister of your spouse.
Special conditions
If your spouse or child dies by suicide, you are entitled to a maximum of 52 weeks’ unpaid leave. If your spouse or child dies as a result of a crime, the leave may last up to 104 weeks.

If you are subject to the Canada Labour Code or a collective agreement, the leave may vary.
