On the death of a Canada Pension Plan beneficiary, you must promptly notify Service Canada by calling 1 800 277-9915 (toll free) or 1 800 255-4786 (TDD). You can also do so by mail. Service Canada must be notified so that it may cease paying the benefits. Please note that the succession is entitled to receive benefits only for the month of death. Benefits received for months following the month of death must be repaid.
If the beneficiary received the amounts by direct deposit, ask the financial institution to return any payments deposited. In taking these steps, you will be asked to provide the deceased’s date of birth and social insurance number, as well as your personal information.

If the deceased was your spouse, you may be entitled to benefits, including death benefits, a survivor's pension, etc. If you have a dependent child under the age of 18 who was born of your union, the death may change the amount of the tax benefit for children
