Québec Pension Plan (QPP)

Responsibility : Régie des rentes du Québec

If you were close to the deceased or are the liquidator of the succession, remember that the succession is entitled to the beneficiary’s pension from the Régie des rentes du Québec only for the month of death. Here is what you must do :

If the pension was paid by cheque
You must return the beneficiary’s cheque and enclose proof of death.

If the pension was paid by direct deposit
You must ask the financial institution to credit the amount received to the Régie.

In either case, you will receive a new cheque made out to the succession.

Note

If you are the deceased’s spouse, you may be entitled to the surviving spouse’s pension and the death benefit. A dependent child born of your union may be entitled to the orphan’s pension. Consult the other sections of this guide.
