Compassionate care benefits

Responsibility : Human Resources and Social Development Canada

Compassionate care benefits may be paid to a person who has to be absent from work to provide care or support to a gravely ill family member at risk of dying within 26 weeks.

Depending on your situation,
the Government of Canada may pay the benefits for up to 6 weeks. Unemployed persons who have filed an application for employment insurance are also eligible for this measure.

If you share the responsibility with several family members who also have to be absent from work, the compassionate care benefits may be divided among you.
