You must notify the life insurance company if you wish to claim an amount of insurance. If you cannot find an insurance policy, and are certain that the deceased had one, the Consumer Assistance Centre of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association.
Notify the deceased's employer
If the deceased was employed, the heirs may be eligible for death benefits, insurance or other amounts paid by the employer.
Obtain all the documents required by the succession (estate) :
Automatic teller cards (also known as "bank cards" or "debit cards" );
Credit cards (Visa, Master Card, etc.);
Cut the cards up and return them to the issuer along with a copy of the certificate of death and contact information for the liquidator of the succession (executor of the estate);
Hospital cards;
It is important to note the numbers of the cards. Destroy the cards and throw them away
Store credit cards or shopping cards (Sears, the Bay, etc.);
Competency certificats and business card.
Check procedure with the organization or professional association:
Union cards;
Blue Card (Old Age Security benefits);
Certificate of Canadian Citizenship;
Registration certificate(Keep the certificate until ownership of the vehicle is transferred.);
Proof of automobile insurance;
Parking card or pass;
Bus pass.
Notify public utilities with which the deceased had an account;
